OpenEdit Media Interface for Cumulus

Before OpenEdit, I was president of Carey Digital Asset Management, considered at that time, the number one US partner of Canto Cumulus - We were a Platinum Canto Certified Systems Integrator and Reseller and had quite a reputation for the work we did with Cumulus. For those of you who may not be familiar with Cumulus, it is a digital asset management software solution with one of the largest install bases in the world, you can check it out here, http://www.canto.com.

So what am I doing at OpenEdit? Well, a couple of years ago we had a Cumulus client who was in need of feature sets outside of the digital asset management realm, such as Content Management, Ecommerce, Job Tracking, Image Replication, etc. Through a series of events, I met Christopher Burkey, the developer of OpenEdit, a CMS web application that had most of the functionality our client requested at the time and what functionally it didn't have, it was easy to customize.

Christopher integrated OpenEdit with Cumulus, later naming the product "OpenEdit Media Interface for Cumulus" and it became a hit with not only our original client but with other Cumulus users as well. More and more of our clients began using OpenEdit, both as an interface to Cumulus, as well as for its original purpose, a Enterprise Content Management solution.

Soon, OpenEdit's growth outpaced the software development capabilities that Carey was able to provide. Thus, OpenEdit, the company was born!

Although we maintain a professional working relationship with several Canto Partners, including Carey, and Canto themselves, I am excited that we are expanding our relationship with Vincent DiPaola and his company Moksa, a Canto partner and major player in the world of print, publishing and design of digital workflow and digital asset management for enterprise level systems.

Vince DiPaola, whether he knows it or not, has been a mentor of mine for quite sometime, I believe I've told him that by now - at least once or twice! I became familiar with Vince years ago (many years ago!) while he was a consultant and speaker in the Graphics Community, back when many of us old timers were working to move away from an analog design/prepress production workflow to a digital workflow. I took what Vince, Frank Romano and others said to heart and really worked to develop my company's workflow's based on their advice – it was a very successful outcome! I must admit, his role as international spokesperson for Apple did glorify him a bit in my eyes, as I am a huge fan of both!

This past year, OpenEdit and Moksa have successfully worked together on OpenEdit and Cumulus projects, the most recent is an installation of OpenEdit and Cumulus for World Wrestling Entertainment! We plan on many more projects together and look forwarding to continuing our relationship with Vince and Moksa!
