Permissions, Databases, Syncronize, and eCommerce

Some significant improvements have been made recently to OpenEdit in preparation for the release of OpenEdit 6.0. All changes are based feedback from clients.

1. New Permission Editor allows you to secure an individual download. Once a person buys the rights to an image, they  can then download that image only. Perhaps the smartest permission checker of any CMS, it allows any combination of criteria and supports AND, OR , NOT and any combination of users, groups or permission checking. The user interaface is now embedded into a new tab interface on the file manager.

2. OpenEdit-db plugin - Once installed OpenEdit-db will use a database for eCommerce data. The openedit-db plugin uses Hibernate instead of XML to read, write and search the store. With Hibernate you can use MySQL or any relational DB supported by JDBC

3. OpenEdit Sync - OpenEdit can now be used to syncronize itself across multiple OpenEdit servers. OpenEdit will also maintain a mirror of any directory structure even ones outside the webapp directory. An example is an archive of images or a mirror of the entire web server.

4. Image eCommerce - We are integrating the eCommerce capability with the image archive. This allows visitors to purchase or request high quality downloads by placing an order. Once the order is approved then the download buttons become enabled.
