Adding distinct shipping charges to each itemHi, I have been wondering for a while to find a way where you can add shipping charges to each individual item. These charges should not be calculated on basis of weight or price instead these charges would be arbitrarily suggested by our client and we have to attach these shipping charges to each items. It would be a shipping charge for each item separately. Then the same should appear in the checkout3.html file and also passed on to Authorize.net. Any help would be highly appreciated. Regards. You mean as in they'd pick something like "priority" "normal" or "express" - that kind of choice?
Actually, we offered our client to set up a weight-based shipping method where we populated store.xml with weight-specific information and the total consignment would be charged for shipping calculated on basis of weight accordingly. However he wants to attach shipping charges to each item individually. For example a lamp is sold for USD 20 and the shipping charge is USD 10. Then another lamp is sold for USD 30 and the shipping charge for that lamp is USD 12. If a customer buys these two lamps then the total invoice amount would be USD 20 + USD 10 + USD 30 + USD 12.
See the problem here is that he is not willing to classify on basis of total consignment weight. He wants to simply add up total shipping and product price and do the same for all items in the cart.
We have stored Shipping cost for each item separately. We are also able to retrieve it but the problem is that it does not add up in the total of shopping cart at checkout3.html. Also the next step would be to pass the same shipping values to Authorize.net
I hope I have been able to make some sense now. Looking forward to your help.
The three shipping algorithms we have are Weight Based, Price Based and Flat Rate
You either need to create a ProductBasedShippingMethod code that extends ShippingMethod.java or you might consider using Handling Charge Level. A Handling Charge Level would give you a set of shipping levels that each product could choose from. This way your lamp could cost 12 for 3 day and 30 dollars for overnight delivery.
