A better starting point would be to download our sandbox/acme demo. It already has a ecommerce store and a media archive set up for you to play with. You can download the root.war from here:
http://dev.openedit.org/anthill/projects/openedit-sandbox/
We use eclipse for our development, but you can actually do most of your html editing live through OpenEdit. Hope this helps you get started. Feel free to post any more questions here!
